Who We Are

About KVHS

The Kennebec Valley Humane Society is non-profit animal rescue shelter dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of abused, abandoned and neglected homeless animals and placing them in loving, permanent homes.

What We Care About

Cats & Kittens

KVHS always has many cats and kittens available for adoption. All cats (and dogs) are vaccinated, spayed, neutered.

Pocket Pets

Rabbits, hamsters, rats, birds, and/or other small animal friends are usually available to consider to be part of your family.

Volunteers

KVHS would not exist without the help of our generous and dedicated volunteers.

Events

Fundraisers and events are essential to keep KVHS running. It is through support from our community that we save lives every day.

Our New Home

Welcome to the Nancy Shuman Animal Shelter!

As of December 26, 2023, we unveiled the doors to our new residence, the Nancy Shuman Animal Shelter, situated at 168 Leighton Rd., Augusta, Maine. Having spent an impressive 96 years at the Pet Haven Lane address, the realization of our dream for a modern, state-of-the-art animal shelter became possible, all thanks to the generosity of our supportive community.

Give them the safe, warm home they deserve!

We have been able to offer homeless animals a second chance by not only finding homes for thousands of pets since 1927, but also providing nurturing, medical care, training, grooming and other services that have prepared them for life with their new families.
