Cats & Kittens

KVHS always has many cats and kittens available for adoption. All cats (and dogs) are vaccinated, spayed, neutered.

Pocket Pets

Rabbits, hamsters, rats, birds, and/or other small animal friends are usually available to consider to be part of your family.

Volunteers

KVHS would not exist without the help of our generous and dedicated volunteers.

Events

Fundraisers and events are essential to keep KVHS running. It is through support from our community that we save lives every day.

Welcome to the Nancy Shuman Animal Shelter!

On December 26, 2023 we opened our new home, the Nancy Shuman Animal Shelter at 168 Leighton Rd., Augusta, Maine. After 96 years at the Pet Haven Lane location, thanks to our generous community, we were able to build a brand new state-of-the-art animal Shelter.

We’re like family.

Our people are the foundation.

Hillary Roberts

Executive Director

Hillary Roberts has had the wonderful opportunity to work as the KVHS Executive Director since June of 2009. Hillary grew up in a small town with a population of about 300 people and loves small town charm. Later, she attended the University of Maine in Orono and has quite a bit of Black Bear Pride. Hillary is passionate about second chances and believes that everyone can make a difference for shelter and rescue animals. When she’s not at KVHS Hillary enjoys art, theatre, and spending time with her family. She lives in Farmingdale with 2 rescue cats, one wild and crazy rescue dog, a husband and the sweetest daughter and most rambunctious son.
